Knowledge ShareFair

The 2026 edition will feature a two day Knowledge ShareFair on Migration Governance, Labour Mobility and Regional Integration.

The ShareFair will bring together policymakers, journalists, labour migration and displacement experts, researchers, media houses, development partners, social partners and regional institutions. It will provide a platform for policy dialogue, media capacity building, peer learning and evidence based public communication on IGAD’s migration priorities.

The sessions will focus on labour migration, decent work, free movement of persons, transhumance, remittances, forced displacement, irregular migration, durable solutions and ethical reporting on migration beyond crisis narratives.

Why This Matters

The way migration is reported shapes public opinion, policy choices and the dignity of people on the move.

Too often, migration and displacement are communicated only through crisis, fear or irregularity. The IGAD Media Awards 2026 will support a new standard of reporting that is accurate, responsible and people centred.

By recognising excellence in journalism, IGAD aims to strengthen public understanding of human mobility as a driver of integration, opportunity, decent work, protection and shared prosperity across the region.

Core Message

Migration is not only about movement. It is about integration, opportunity, data, labour, livelihoods, decent work, skills, rights, dignity, protection and shared prosperity.

Through the IGAD Media Awards 2026, IGAD will work with the media to tell this story with accuracy, evidence, balance and purpose across East Africa and the Horn of Africa.
